Buddhism is the religion that spread from India to China. Buddhism reached China in the first century A.D. Chinese found this religion as an escape from violence and suffering. By A.D 200 Buddhism had spread across much of China. When the Han Dynasty of China extended its power to central Asia the Chinese started learning about Buddhism, by the middle of the first century C.E a community of Chinese Buddhists were already in existence. Then a collection of Chinese translations to Buddhists texts grew. The spread of Buddhism from China to India is an example of cultural diffusion which is the spread of ideas from one culture to another. The Han Dynasty fell in 220: the beginning period of social and political chaos in China. The northern part of China over run by non-Chinese tribes and the southern part were ruled by a succession of weak dynasties.
